Maker: Kittridge & Co Cincinatti OH
This is a Civil War cartridge box for the Henry Rifles. There were Sharpshooter brigades that used Henry Rifles, and could load 16 shots. The lever action rapid fire was very successful in the Civil War. These brass cartridge boxes were made by Kittridge & Co. Cincinnati OH. They are marked 2 different ways, one marking is "Kittridge & Co" over the "Patented Jan 27, 1863", over "Reissued.APL.14.63". The other marking is just "Patented Jan 27, 1863", over "Reissued.APL.14.63" This box is the end type marking. It is in fantastic condition, there are no dents or scratches, and it still has over 85% of the original lacquer. I don't think this one was ever issued or used very much. These cartridge boxes are a must if you have a Civil War era Henry Rifle in your collection.
