Maker: T. Ketland & Co.
This is a very early Blunderbuss, with pointed lock marked T. Ketland & Co. This is only the 2nd Ketland Blunderbuss I have ever seen. There are 2 stress cracks in the stock, but tit is completely sound and solid. It has an interesting 12" round barrel, that flares to 1 1/2" OD at the muzzle. The barrel has typical proof marks. The butt plate is nailed on the gun, not screwed in. The inscription reads " Timothy Mahony March 1815 HALIFAX" I believe the Halifax was a ship. This is a very interesting gun by a rare maker. This is work further research. The ramrod needs to be replaces, it is just a round dowel rod with some stain on it.The brass furniture is very plain which leads me to believe this might be from a ship. There is a small piece of the stock that has been chipped out at the rear of the tang, and filled with putty.
