This is a Model 1813 ARMY converted with the Bolster conversion. This gun was inspected by Jim Wertenberger and Jim told me that there are less than 5 or 6 known "Bolster" conversions of this rare contract. They made only 1150 of these 1813's in .69 caliber then shifted to the 1816 contract in .54 caliber. They revised the 1813 contract down because the large caliber had very harsh recoil. 1813's are especially scarce, also interesting is that this was the first contract that called for interchangeability of all parts. The bolster fits very well into the original pan cavity in the lock plate. The bench assembly marks consist of 2 codes. The number 85 appears on the inside of the percussion hammer, inside the lock cavity, on the inside of the lock plate on the bottom of the barrel. The Roman numeral XI also appear in the barrel channel, on the bottom of the barrel, on the lock plate under the mainspring. Dual bench coding is common in bolster alterations to insure proper mating of the percussion hammer, the bolster, lock, barrel and stock. This gun would fit well into any Martial Pistol collection.
